From Kim Oki’s saxophone to Alevia Records’ hip-hop and beats – a night for sounds that don’t sit still, in a space wide enough to hold them
Music In Us All presents a double bill at Freespace that moves from spiritual jazz to underground hip-hop – South Korean saxophonist Kim Oki brings his six-piece ensemble to The Box as part of his Asia tour, with an opening set from local contemporary jazz outfit Nelson Fung & The Water. Over at Lau Bak Livehouse, Hong Kong–Prague label Alevia Records take over with a full-roster live ensemble set, preceded by a beat set from Yuwen and a DJ set from DJ Tiga.
From reed to rhythm, from improvisation to verse – a single evening at Freespace tracing the outer edges of where contemporary sound is going.
